RESCUE DIVER
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Rescue Course is probably one of the most useful diving courses following your Scuba Diver course. It is not only designed to train the diver in rescue skills but also in the very important aspects of how to avoid an accident and self rescue. The course will greatly increase your general skills and knowledge and you will be a far more comfortable and confident diver at the end of the course.
LECTURES
Admin., Introduction. General procedures, Preparedness, Communication Recalls, Stress, Panic.
Gear problems, mask, D.V. fin, BC re-breathing.
Helicopter procedures.
Cold water, hypothermia, HELP, hyperthermia. Loss of air.
Diver to diver rescue - weights, BC, mask, tank, surface rescues, defences and escapes, underwater rescue. Open water resuscitation, mtm, mouth to snorkel, and cardiac arrest.
Radio Procedures
Major diving injuries - burst lung, decompression sickness. Lost diver routine. Emergency care on boat or shore, neurological evaluation.
Physiological problems - diving reflex, rust, carotid sinus, massive bleeding, vomiting, cramps, narcosis, uncontrolled descent, horizontal disorientation, vertical disorientation, ear window rupture, Drowning.
POOL SESSIONS
Snorkel & Scuba doff and don.
Self rescue. Gear problems, tows, unconscious and non breathing diver, CPR. Lost mask, lost fin, Faulty D.V., H.E.L.P., BC breathing.
DIVES
Shore Entry, Lost diver routine, initiate search, taking control of situation shore procedures (skin dive and Scuba dive).
Unconscious, non breathing diver and CPR. Beach procedures.
Shires Quarry, rope rescues, lost buddy, stress and panic diver, tired diver tows, unconscious and non breathing diver, CPR.
Boat dive, unconscious and non breathing diver. CPR out of air, boat rescues, retrieval of victims, practical evaluation.
FIRST AID
In order to be certified as a rescue diver the candidate must be qualified in first aid by a recognised organisation such as the Red Cross.
You can:
Have the Red cross give the course scheduled in your course.
Attend a first aid course before the Rescue course.
FORMAT
The course can be run over 5 days full time or part time over 2 weeks in the evenings and on weekends.
EQUIPMNET REQUIRED
You will need a full set of scuba gear to complete this course
PRICE
The course costs R 4300.00 and includes the training, training manual and dives
Not included is the diving equipment (hiring of equipment can be arranged), transport to training sites and dive locations
